Permission to Be

Photo of wooden block-cut words spelling "who are you?"What if we all had permission, in 2025, to just be who we are? Live the life we want, and work toward having that life?

This is, of course, a position of privilege. Too many don’t have access to basic needs, never mind the space to lift their gaze and imagine possibilities.

Seems to me, though, that this makes it all the more necessary – essential, even – for those of us who do have the privilege to exercise it.

The world needs more joyful, fulfilled people, living lives of personal meaning. We don’t need anyone to needlessly squelch themselves, compressing down into what we’ve been told we “should” be or do in order to satisfy the demands or expectations of family, friends, society, bosses, cultural norms, and so on.

Yes, there are limitations. But how many of those might be, could be, our own blinders and self-imposed, unnecessary, no-longer-relevant stories?

What if … ?
